First time Paintballers at Eugenio Lopez Center

Okay, this is not about mountainbiking, and this is not about mountaineering, either. This is about paintball. Yes, a sport that I experienced and played for the first time. Actually, most of us didn’t have any experience with this exciting sport before. We did this as part of our company’s team building activity which was held at Eugenio Lopez Center at Antipolo City, Rizal.
Just like any other team building activities, class room discussion kicks off the activity. It is just short, though, approximately 30 minutes. After that we proceed to the field, they called “war zone”. “War Zone” because it is the place where paintball games are held. What is paintball? It is basically a sport in which players compete in teams or individually and the teams primary goal are to eliminate their opponents by hitting them with pellets containing paint from a specific gun designed for paintball games. But, you don’t have to worry, the pellets contained water-based paint so it won’t stain your clothes. We played three 15-minute games. First game, is played by 3 teams of 4 individuals. Second game is composed of two teams with 6 players per team. And the last game is…. 12 of us against 3 Philippine Gotcha team. haha!!
The first game. 3 teams fighting each other. It was just like a “getting to know the sport” game. The moment the game started, everybody are in the rush. Trying to secure its own area and quite hyper active. It is just like a game of life and death. You don’t want to get hit because you thought it hurts when you’re hit by a pellets. And yes, it indeed hurts.
But we are an unfortunate team. Our designated area was stuck between the other 2 teams. And there’s no good place to hide while the other teams has a secure place. We’re not able to execute our game plan. Ric, talks about left plank, right plank, and assault. But all of those were gone the moment the game started. Our team was on the panic mode, stuck in a small place and our only cover are some small trees. The result is……………. we’re the first team that gets eliminated and I’m the one that got killed first. Ouch….. I was hit in the head. And a warrior was born. It feels like, I want to get my revenge. I want to perform better in the next game. Perhaps, that’s the warrior spirit inside me.
The 2nd game. Composed of 2 teams, with 6 players per team. It was supposed to be my better moment. Yes, I learned the sport after the first game, but still a lot of things to learn. This time I performed a bit better. And only a bit, because I also got hit. haha…. But wasn’t the first one though. I was hit
because I moved to a tree that I thought no one was near. Viola, an opponent was near, hiding in a bunker. I never saw him because he never shot a single pellet before I moved in. A rapid gun fire was heard and I kept asking the marshall if I was hit. He said continue but a few seconds later I was hit. I have to raise my arm and gun to siginify that I was hit, else, they might shoot me. Okay, I’m still disappointed with my performance. But, still we all enjoy the game and that’s the most important thing.
The 3rd game. Okay, this is an over kill. 12 against 3 Philippine Gotcha team member. But they’re good so it is still a challenge
for us twelve. But the key is…. I was hit(killed) again. I know my mistake. I was so impatient that i made a moved and because of it, I was hit.
Do i have to try this sport, again? Yes, though a different adrenalin rush maybe felt when your doing downhill mountainbiking, this sport is quite exciting too. However, I’m still a mountainbiker…
